Through an ongoing partnership, ASU Technology Based Learning and Research and
Aries Technology, Inc. have made it possible to learn Aries curricula and earn ASU college
credit at the same time. The ASU Educational Technology (EDT 394) course line-up allows anyone
to not only earn three credit hours per course, but also learn essential IT knowledge
and prepare for industry endorsed certifications.

Courses:

 

EDT 394 A: Computer Literacy and Technology Fundamentals

Computer Literacy and Technology Fundamentals provides the knowledge and skills required for students to become functional users of computer hardware, software applications, networks, and the Internet. This course is aligned and approved by IC³ 2005 standard, a certification program that serves as a universal measure of basic computer knowledge and Internet skills.

EDT 394 B: Introduction to PC Hardware

Introduction to PC Hardware is the first semester in a two semester block of professional IT training that builds a solid foundation of computer basics. Upon completion students will be able to troubleshoot, maintain and upgrade personal computers, configure and install the most widely used operating systems and gain employment in the IT field. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 C: Introduction to Operating Systems

Introduction to Operating Systems is the second semester in a two semester block of professional IT training that provides students with a comprehensive background in personal computer operating systems, including MS-DOS, Windows 9x, Windows NT/2000 and Windows XP. Upon completion, students will be able to install, operate and troubleshoot the most widely used operating systems and gain employment in the IT field. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 D: Introduction to Data Networks

Introduction to Data Networks is a one semester professional IT training course that builds a solid foundation of networking administration skills, protocols, the OSI model, LAN, WAN design, cabling, troubleshooting and maintenance for non-specific environments. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 E: Introduction to Server Administration

Introduction to Server Administration is a one semester professional course that focuses on server room design, installation, security, maintenance, and network administration skills for non-vendor-specific environments. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 F: Linux Essentials

Linux Essentials is a one semester course with multimedia instructional design focusing on the basic Linux operating system, its history, and deeper understanding of the system’s installation, configuration, and commands. Simulations give students hands on experience without needing a computer dedicated to Linux. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 G: Security Essentials

Security Essentials is a one semester course that explores security concepts and implementation as it applies to local Area Network (LANs) and Wide Area Network (WANs). Topics include cryptography, security standards and protocols, authorization and access methods, intrusion detection, infrastructure design and security on the Internet. This course prepares students for industry endorsed certification exams.

EDT 394 H: Computer Literacy and Technology Fundamentals (Spanish Version)

The Spanish version of EDT 394 A. It provides the knowledge and skills required for students to become functional users of computer hardware, software applications, networks, and the Internet. This course is aligned and approved by IC³ 2005 standard, a certification program that serves as a universal measure of basic computer knowledge and Internet skills.
