Do you Understand Teaching? Well, if you do, than you probably know that the only definitive involved with teaching is your own continuous learning. No matter how long you have been teaching, you know that there are still new things you can do to better your practice and process. You may ask for opinions and advice from colleagues, attend workshops, or spend your time researching these new methods, but you may not always find the answers you are after.
With support from the National Science Foundation, IBM, and Intel, the Understanding Teaching project has produced an interactive professional development seminar that is now distributed online. Understanding Teaching employs an exciting multimedia approach with flash animation, audio, complex student databases, and full-motion videos. This program expertly instructs math educators on how to apply the Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics prescribed by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
High-Tech and High-Touch
Understanding Teaching incorporates a natural interface that situates the learner in a real-world instructional environment which enables users to actively explore and learn the presented concepts. The focus and intent of the program will benefit school administrators, professional development coordinators, technology coordinators, college instructors, and education administrators involved in teacher training.
Understanding Teaching provides first-hand, observational experience that helps educators recognize, understand, and implement the NCTM Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics.
