Computer technology has advanced immensely since 1950's first generation computers that required technicians to stand by with shopping carts full of replacement tubes. Now that we have officially entered the next millennium, it's safe to say that computers are here to stay. Computers are integral parts of our lives, and it's important to be aware of and to understand them.

Most of us are familiar with computers, and use them in one capacity or another nearly every day. A computer is an electronic device that uses microprocessor technology to input, manipulate, store, and output data. Computing technology allows us to write letters, create pictures, make calculations, play games, and send electronic mail (e-mail).
