Like many modern conveniences, a computer is an electronic device--meaning it requires electricity to operate. The power supply is a box inside of the computer that converts Alternating Current (AC) into Direct Current (DC). Because a computer's circuitry is delicate and extremely sensitive, a computer is designed to run only on DC current.
