Digital Divide

page: 3 of 33

Despite the widespread growth of the computer industry and the Internet, concerns about a “digital divide” remain. This refers to the gap (or difference) between groups of people in their ability to use Information Technology—whether due to technical skills, computer literacy, or geographical access. Even though two communities may access the Internet, the quality and speed of connection can be significantly different.

The “digital divide” is generally viewed as a social and political problem.  The most obvious examples are seen on a global basis since a number of countries are taking more advantage of the Internet than others.
